Blog Silence

Well my blog has been quiet this week, not because of going back to work but because Mr80grit decided to do maintence on the computer. So currently I can't upload any pictures as he is still kinda in the middle of it. Hopefully I will be able to later today or tomorrow as I have things to blog about but the pictures help tell the story.

I have a three day weekend this week and I am going to enjoy it. MrHarley will be home either tonight or tomorrow. My parent's 50th anniversary is tomorrow and we are celebrating with dinner out as a whole family on Monday night! The sun is out and I am going to enjoy it before it gets too hot!

Last Day of Vacation

Today is my last day of my vacation. That went very quickly. Now I have to wait with everyone at work until sometime at the end of August when we find out the date of our last day. I know that it will be anywhere between October 1st and February 1st. I am planning to take a month off after my final day to start looking for a new job. I do have a definite list that I want in a new job and this time I am not going to settle. That doesn't mean I won't take temp jobs until the one I want comes along, it just means that I won't take the road of least resistance.

On my last day of vacation, my cats are staging an uprising. We gave them a different, cheaper quality food for a few days that they fell in love with and now they are unhappy with the old one that is healthier for them. So they aren't eating until they are really hungry, which won't hurt them at all especially China who is a butterball. Isabelle is the long hair, China is the calico, and Fergie is the gray tabby. I thought we need some pictures on the blog today.

Normal Saturdays

So this is how Saturdays are suppose to be when you don't have them as your normal workdays. Get up in the morning do stuff with your hubby, in my case it was band rehearsal and then back home for breakfast. Then we took the cars to the youth car wash and our vehicles got their summer baths.

Then home for lunch and a nap. Then clean up, run a few errands, meet parent for dinner, more errands. A little tv and dessert on the patio in the starlight ( or would be if it wasn't for the parking lot lights that are in a empty lot behind our house. No one uses that lot!) Relaxing Saturday, how nice. It makes me look forward more to my job ending. Next job, normal business days!

Even got a little knitting done.

Friday Fun

Okay, starting your day by going to the dentist: not fun. But my bite was fixed so that I can eat almost anything now which is great. Two more visits left, one to use a computer to validate my bite and one more to permanently glue one crown on that is on just temporarily due to the fit.

The fun: going to my favorite LYS directly from the dentist. Chatting and knitting the best things to do in the afternoon. Mr80grit joined me and convinced me to buy some Noro sock yarn for a friend's birthday shawl. So I did! Very fun!

Then we went and checked out a new grocery store here in SLC, it is farmer's market based. It was awesome. Yummy produce and a ton of different brands and options of gluten free foods that you can't find anywhere else (yes even more than the national organic store we have). So dinner was a tasting experience, miss on the pizza but hit on the Vanilla Chai ice cream by Stoneyfields. Must have more of that!!!!

Just two more days of this vacation and work has tried to creep in a little but mr80grit is keeping me busy with other things so that I can't focus on them. He is so awesome!

Silent

I have been a little silent on the blog since Monday. Then dentist appointment was more painful than I was prepared to handle, so it has taken me a few days to recover. While my bite isn't perfect, some teeth are touching enough to eat soft foods. I am sick of mashed potatoes, pudding, yogurt, milk shake type drinks etc. (Not a jello fan!) But tomorrow I go back to fix the bite a little more. The dentist said it would take about two or three appointments to get it right. He has not caught on that I don't enjoy going to the dentist. Oh well! I will get through it.

I did finish my yarn quest yesterday with a trip to Provo and then back to my favorite LYS. I picked up some beautiful yarn at my LYS that I think I will use for a shawl. I just realized I didn't take any pictures of it. It is time to change that this afternoon.

I had lunch with my mom, planning the dinner to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Very low key and understated. Just dinner with the family at a nice place. It will be fun MrHarely will be home and hopefully my OLDBRO will make an appearance. It will be fun.

Yarn Quest

Saturday began the Yarn Quest, with six yarn shops ranging from Ogden to Orem. So after a good sleep in, off Mr80grit and I went to Ogden. It had been years since I had been to Ogden, we have been by it many times on the way up to Maddox or Preston, Idaho. But to go there as the destination - never as a couple and only once since I finished at Weber in 94-a football game in fall 94 or 95.

The yarn shop is in historical 25th street, it was cute and had a lot to offer. I did get a little sock yarn stash. We had a great lunch at the place next door. I totally forgot to take pictures, I need to like my camera again. I really enjoyed the one I used during the week.

We drove up to the university and I saw a lot of changes had taken place since I when to school. Made me a little sad but change happens that is just the way of things.

Day #2 of Yarn Quest-local shop in downtown SLC. I like the shop and have been there many times but I believe you only have one LYS home and that for me is unraveled sheep. But I did find some great sock yarn there and a quest that I had been looking for was completed-now just to knit up the huge socks by Christmas-as that is my goal.

Today I am going to two of the shops, one very close to home and one on the way to dentist. Yes, hopefully this will be my last trip to the dentist in sometime. I would like to keep it to every six months and no more!

The quest calls!

All Done!

It is done, all the projects are completed and the groups have left for home. But they did an awesome job! 21 crews completed 30 projects. We were all exhausted in the end and we were ready for our beds last night.

Mr80grit and I stayed until everything was done for the day, we said our goodbyes to group leaders, crew chiefs, supervisors and summer staff. By the time we woke up this morning all the groups were on their way home.

It is too soon to start thinking about next year, but by the time the leaves start to turn I probably will start getting excited for next year: July 4 to July 11, 2009.

But there are many hurdles to jump before then, a lot of knitting and other stuff not to be mentioned now. However, today is for adventure, a knitting store trip to the one in Ogden that I haven't been to, so off we go!

Things I have Learned this week

What an exciting week this has been and a very busy week. I learned to make sure that I moderate my comments as some individuals are not polite. Which is so very sad!

I have learned a lot about posting as I have been updating the world changers blog and inserting multiple pictures. Of course, it didn't figure it out until tonight. Sean will probably go back and edit the postings better when he has internet again.

I also learned how to take pictures on a Canon d-40 or X-40 I don't know the total name of the camera but I did fall for the camera. It is now on top of my wish list!!! It was so much fun to take pictures with and yes some of the pictures on the world changers blog are one that I took. Of course, not the ones that I am in.

I have made some really good friends this weekend not only on the staff but also from some of the groups taking part. I hope that they will come back next year so that I can work with them again as they are so very awesome!

On a side note Mr Harley Dude is moving back home at the end of this month. I am so very excited! I love to have all of my family around especially at the holidays. He is taking a job up here which means I can knit him warm things for winter that he might actually wear. Maybe?

Well we got home early tonight and I need to take advantage of that and go to sleep! So hopefully more pictures and such later!

My World Changers Update

Day Whatever, I don't know if I am so tired that I don't know what day of the project this is or what. I am having a great time and have met a lot of awesome people since this started. Today the crews started work .

It is so amazing what they have accomplished. I have added the official link to world changers salt lake on the side. Go and check out more photos.

I am getting a little knitting done today as I am helping out in the office, answer questions, errands etc. I hope to complete at least one of my socks by the end of the week. I turned the heel this evening and now working on the gusset.

Time for some sleep. This is so cool.

World Changers are coming!

World Changers are coming to Salt Lake City. What is world changers you ask, it is a student mission opportunity as part of the North American Mission Board.

THE MISSION OF WORLD CHANGERS

World Changers seeks to provide Christian youth and adults with opportunities to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others through practical learning experiences that teach servant hood and personal commitment to missions.

What does this have to do with me? I am the assistant this year to the Project Coordinator. We start setting up today and tomorrow. The youth groups arrive Saturday and the work beginning on Monday. We have 21 crews and 28 projects ranging from replacing roofs to painting and yard work. It is suppose to be in the high 90's all week. I will be posting pictures and updates. I really excited! It is going to be so much fun and hard work of course!

All is Well

All is Well is the phrase found in every note from my brother Mr Harley Dude. This is what we tease him will be on his tombstone. I have two brothers both are older than me. Mr Harley is the one closest to me in age. He was my first pal, my first hero after my dad. Mom has a picture of us when I got my first tea set. My first 'guest' was my brother. I have called him many things over the years. Mister Reliable, Roggie, and Pain but he has always been there in spirit if not in person. He traveled to come to my wedding and even stood up with the best man.

So why you ask this ramble about my brother? You have to know that my brother loves to give gifts especially to my parents. From appliances to trips to Alaska, he has done many things over the years. Sometimes he lets me in on it, usually the wrapping part. This last weekend was a gift for my parent 50th wedding anniversary. My parents car of 15 years finally died a great death, 1st the a/c then the steering. So the search started on getting a new car, Mr Harley wanted to help a little. My wonderful parents wanted him to save his money.

So Mr Harley called on me and Mr 80 grit to help him help them. So once the type of car was decided on, we added it for him. This is sounding a lot easier than it was- Trust me! But in the end it all worked out. Mr Harley got to surprise them and I am once again the sneaky sister.
