Weekend Catchup

Well the weekend is over, I don't think I did much note worthy stuff this weekend. I was fighting a cold or something for most of it. I did some knitting.

Better late than never

Today we finally celebrated Amy's birthday, six months late but we did it. Great food including steaks and gluten free chocolate cake. Then knitting and watching movies afterwards. Good day!

Great Friends

I have to admit that I have some awesome friends.  But there are four people right now that my husband and I spend a lot of great time together.  Two are my wonderful neighbors, A and E and then our friends that are like family H and J.  We have gone camping together, visit together, watched football together. (The wonderful Utah vs BYU game last week, all of us cheering for Utah).  Both A and I are gluten free and the rest support us and eat everything that way along with us.

So why I am mention them today especially? Well today was a big dental appointment for me. Those who follow my blog know that several years ago I had all my top teeth crowned all at once. Well today was the crown prep for 8 of my bottom teeth.  I have two implants that are in process and the others are crowned.  So in the least you could say eating was going to be mushy to say the least. Normally it is shakes and applesauce. Both can get very boring very quickly.  Well my dear friends made sure it wasn't. While I still had my normal peanut butter chocolate milkshake after the 3+ hour appointment, I was gifted with some amazing food at dinner.

H and J brought and cooked, J's wonderful mexican dip full of flavor and goodness. (Mine had to be put through the blender but it still tasted awesome). I look forward to the leftovers tomorrow, but I also look forward to having it again some other time with tortilla chips.  No picture of these dip as it sort looks like baby food and not at all pretty. But very, very good.

Then a little later A and E brought over rice pudding, oh my goodness.  It was so very, very yummy and beautiful.  They had found a recipe that was more like the rice pudding that the Indian restaurants serve.  I felt so very, very spoiled.

I am truly blessed by my friends and I look forward to spoiling them back.  I did get extra servings of the rice pudding, and I am sorry but I am not sharing. Well maybe a little with hubby as I can't eat the nuts yet.

Some knitting content

Mr80grit's New Hat that fits correctly
I think I am addicted to hats right now.
Delicious German Pancake, Gluten Free of course
I have completed Mr80grit's hat in the brown and white motif. It fits so much better than the first one. I already have Christmas plans for the other one.  I didn't have as much time knitting this week as I did the week before. I have already cast on for another hat in red and white. I am enjoying learning strand knitting and I am looking at either a sweater or mittens next. Maybe mittens to match the hats.  Currently not a lot is needed as it really isn't cold enough to wear as the weather is maintaining the high 60's and 70's for the most part.

On Saturday October 9th there was a gluten free expo at Southtowne Expo that Mr80grit and I attended. It was so great, lots of great samples. Mr80grit bought a sample from Ohmyglutenfree of their flour that you are suppose to be able to swap for normal flour in any receipe.  So last night for dinner we tried it in a German pancake. Yummy, with no weird aftertaste or texture. We are defiinately going to get more.

Best Gluten Free pizza ever!

And I am not kidding!  This afternoon Mr80grit and I went to the movies and as we left we saw this sign at a local restaurant stating they had gluten free pizza. Mr80grit went in and talked to the restaurant manager(owner?) and found out that their crust was made from scratch in a separate kitchen and that they are getting ready to launch a gluten free menu tomorrow with pasta including Lasagna.  The pizza was available today and actually came in two sizes 14" and 18".  We decided to stay for dinner and have pizza. We had one of the daily specials the Buffalo Chicken.
I really can't believe how good it is.  The toppings are chopped/diced so that in every bite you have the chicken, blue cheese, mozzarella cheese, sauce and crust.  I tasted the crust by itself.  Very delicious.

The chef came out just after the pizza was delivered to the table to see how we like it. She is very excited about the gluten free menu and has been taste testing a lot of the new dishes.  She explained how it took them 7 months to develop the crust and that there are 9 different gluten free flours in the crust.  She is also excited about the gluten free brownie that they will be serving.  She mentioned how much hidden gluten was in things.  To solve this, they shred the mozzarella cheese there to ensure that it is gluten free as some of the prepared shredded cheese uses flour to keep the cheese from clumping. I am really impressed with the knowledge and research that they seemed to have done.

As we left we stopped by the gluten free zone to let them know how much we enjoyed our dinner. They were in the process of entering the new gluten free menu into the system.  We can't wait to go back and try more on the gluten free menu.

Mr80grit here.. i am the gluten eater.... but i cook gluten free at home.. they have nailed the taste/texture of the crust so spot on.... that i found no hesitation in eating 5 slices.... it is marvelous to share a meal in a restaurant that neither one of us has to compromise.. Celiacs -- Do your family a favor.. take them here to experience a pizza meal that all can have fun eating.. including us wheat eaters.... yes .... it is just that good.... see y'all there.....
