Knitting for myself

Well Christmas has come and gone and now I find myself knitting for the first time in along time for myself. I was given a beautiful cowl for Xmas so I decided to make myself some fingerless mittens. I cast on yesterday and today completed both with the exception of the thumbs. So by tomorrow they should be ready for a bath abd blocking.

Monday adventure

Today the 2nd Monday in December found me exactly where I was last year at the paradonist having a tooth extracted and an implant placed. I don't like this when this type of pattern happens. But at least I had a pretty view from my chair while having the procedure done.

Snowflake ragtop

It is fitting that I completed these yesterday as we had a snowstorm that gave us 6-8 inches. Outside looks like a winter wonderland today. These were a gift that was knitted in love for a friend that has had a recent loss. I am happy so say they were greeted with excitement and joy.

Life Today

I woke up this morning to a beautiful cloudy morning with the expectation of rain storms. Nothing to big on my plate. But email brought me news that has sent me on my knees in prayer. Life is so fragile, so precious and so amazing. So Today I am Thankful

I am thankful for my wonderful husband who does the most amazing things for me, like searching for the best tasting sheep/goat cheese so that I can enjoy cheese again.

I am thankful for my family both by name and by heart. I have such an amazing group of people that I call family.

I am thankful for my bad days and my good days, even though I am in the shadow of some personal bad days, I know that I will have good days again.

I am thankful for my job and the people I work for and with. They are truly a blessing.

I am thankful for two needles and yarn that allow me to express myself and share my love.

I am very thankful for the good, the bad and the ugly.

Weekend Challenge

So it all started Friday night while running errands before dinner. Hubby was reliving his work day and he mentioned his boss ask a "newbie" knitter on his team if she could knit up some fingerless gloves/mittens for a gift to the new team leader coming from Arizona on Monday. She said if she had six months she could. I made the comment that I could do it this weekend. I knew what pattern I would use and what yarn as long as his boss paid for the yarn.  A quick text message conversation and it was game on.

So we got up early on Saturday morning and headed to my local knit shop to pick up yarn.  While picking out yarn, I got an early Christmas present as I saw my friend in a knitting class there, learning to knit so she can make me something.  That is so awesome! So by 12 pm I was home and picked up my needles.

It took a couple of false starts, I got knitting away for about 8 hours.  I watched a lot of TV, including a few Christmas movies on Lifetime and Hallmark channels. I ended the night with one and half mitts completed.
Okay, this is a really bad photo but this is where I ended Saturday night. I didn't realize that I tensed up my right shoulder while I knitted these on Saturday that I didn't sleep that well but I got enough sleep to wake up by 10 am on Sunday and start to finish them.  It took a long time to relax and get knitting to finish up by noon so that I could get them into a bath and blocking so they would be dry by nighttime.
By afternoon they were done and I got my reward. Movie at the Theater.  Thor!!! Overall it was a good weekend, and with a little rest I am hoping that my shoulder will relax and I can finish my Christmas knitting up.

A cuff too long

I forgot to look at my notes or the first sock when I started on the 2nd sock. Now I have to rip back to only 12 rows of ribbing. Feeling the pressure with less than 9 weeks until Christmas.

Sound Sunday

This was a sound Sunday for Preston and I. We love being on the a/v team at church, even though we both are not morning people. We have been a part of the team for so long it would feel weird if we didn't.

I always have a few moments to knit when we are on sound. In fact, the preachers get a little worried if I am not. I have knit several pairs of "sermon" socks over the years.

So today's pictures is the current one. First pic was from rehearsal on Saturday and then the last is where I ended after the 2nd service today.

The Weekend

While I feel I should have a ton of photos of awesome things I did over this weekend.  I really don't.  I have been struggling with a cold and allergies for over a week and this weekend it hit me hard. Saturday I took it easy in the morning with Preston spoiling me by get me a coffee from our favorite place and then he took me to lunch. Chik a fil has gluten free grilled nuggets - they were so tasty. He drove me to two knitting stores which I love both of the stores for different reasons. We even sneaked a visit with my parents at their house. I got to see my brother MrHarleyDude.  I will be making him a pirate (skull and crossbones) hat for Christmas.  We finished up the evening with flank steak on the grill.  I was exhausted and finished the evening reading.

Sunday dawned with an incredible headache for me, sinus and migraine and nothing I did helped it.  As now I am on medication that doesn't allow me to take Advil or aspirin it  really limits what helps.  So I stayed home from church and watched football and knitted. I finished sock #1 on Emerald City and by bed time I cast on sock #2.  This time I made sure to cast on enough stitches so I don't have to knit this sock twice.

Preston made an wonderful dinner of Hot Italian sausage and spaghetti squash. He added grilled red peppers and Parmesan cheese. So delicious and so yummy. When I am sick nothing sounds good but this hit all the right notes. I am looking forward to leftovers tonight.

Fall project

I have been working feverishly on this hat for Em who loves Halloween. I finished it today with sewing the lining in. I used the main color as the lining and all that was left is that little amount. I picked up more yarn to do one for my brother. I am really happy with the results but the similar colors did make for trouble while knitting. Now I know, when doing strand knitting contrast is key.

Friday night treat

I finished knitting on a special project and this was my personal reward. Just a little sewing and blocking left which will be done tomorrow.

Friday's treat

It is cold and rainy today with snow in the mountains. I have a wonderful treat for my coffee.

Weather is changing

We have a storm coming that should put snow in the mountains by tomorrow. Today's high is suppose to be 64℉. I am ready for hoodie weather.

No knitting, just ducks

On Sunday, I finished a christmas gift, which is of course is socks. Then I cast on another pair for Christmas and really went to town. I did the whole leg while watching the Seattle Seahawk football game. Then on Tuesday as I was showing the sock to my friend, I noticed it. I hadn't cast on enough stitches, it was too small. If the yarn hadn't been purchased for the exact person and if I had a kid in my life who would love them it would have been a different matter. But alas, the sock had to be ripped out and redone. So Tuesday night that was done. With hubby's help I unraveled the sock back to the ball and then knit the ribbing but as I haven't taken a picture of it, there is nothing to show.

However I had a wonderful walk this morning and enjoyed watching the ducks, squirrels, cows, etc at the farm I walk. I forgot how much these morning walks calm my mind.  So here are the ducks.

It was a beautiful day this morning with a hint of cooler fall temperatures.

A change coming

This morning I was out earlier than yesterday, the sun was out and there was a slight breeze. Now it is cloudy, trying to rain. I have seen lightning and have heard the thunder. No rain yet, but as I write this it opens up. It is still suppose to get to 91° today before the cold front moves in.

Heel turning

It is Monday night football time again. It so helps my knitting. Tonight it was time to turn the heel on the 2nd sock. I forgot how much I can knit during a football game.

Weekend

Well this weekend composed a lot of knitting, mainly for myself. With the kick off of NFL football, we got our cable box fixed and then watch some games.  Saturday I watch my Weber State Wildcats be smashed by the Utah Utes.  I went to school at Weber but was born at the UofU hospital so it was a weird game for me.

Saturday was allergy day for me, so I stayed around the house knitting while Hubby was out and about. Sunday was filled with church, knitting and football.  I enjoyed that lovely Gluten Free Carrot Cupcake on Sunday.  Plus my Dallas Cowboys won! I rained on Saturday night into Sunday afternoon which made the weekend perfect.  Tonight more sock knitting will be done with more football.

Saturday

Who knows where this weekend will take us, by for now it is starting with me outside in the sun reading. Hubby is still asleep but it is warming up. They say this is the end of summer but I will only believe that when the temperature no longer resides in the 90's.

Less than four months

You know that you are surrounded with family that love hand knits when they remind you that there is less than four months, so that made me hit the knitting needles this weekend. I actually completed a hat.  That was good, now I am diving into the stash to see what else I can knit.
I loved this hat and hope the person who receives this will enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Socks completed!

Wow I am finally getting around to blogging about the socks I have completed. The blue ones just came off the needles yesterday. I started them in Oregon and so they are name for the cliffs at Depoe Bay.  So black and the water so blue.  The other pair of socks were completed on the trip.  I am debating if these will be Christmas socks or the first snow fall socks.  I think it will depend on how my knitting goes the next few weeks along with when and if we get snow.  Sometimes I think this summer is never going to end.
