Yesterday's storm

11:30 am

Snow on mountains by night

I can't tell it is going to be one of those weird weather summers.  It really never was warmer that 49 degrees all day. In fact, hubby turned on the heat in the evening just to take the damp chill off the house. I so loved that act of kindness.  I love weather, especially raining weather. It does feel strange to be wearing a hoodie on my morning walks on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially since they are calling for near 90's by Saturday.

I am enjoying my morning walks for the most part. I upped my mileage too quickly last week and paid for it. So I have cut back down to 1.7 miles and will wait the seven days to up it again.

Moments from Yesterday

Yesterday was a pretty busy day with many things going on but it was a nice winter weather day in that it snowed. Yes I love the snow which definitely beats today's weather which is foggy/smogy ~ yucky.

Yesterday I went out earlier in the morning, it was cloudy but nice.  On my way back there was a light dusting of snow. I did some things in the house and left for work an hour and half later and there was 2 inches of snow at least.
My boot in the snow on the sidewalk

Snow sticking everywhere but it is beautiful.

Personal addition to my office
My goal yesterday was to get my small coffee pot to the office and remember the right measurements for a good cup of coffee. It only took 3 pots of coffee to get it right. No I didn't drink all 3 pots only the last one.  One of my co workers is very excited and is hoping that I will share.  I probably will but I may depend on the day. :)

Sunshine, Snow and Cold

That is the forecast for today. I think they were right!
Snow

Snow
Sunshine

Cold
I didn't mean to go 10 day into the new year before blogging but the first week back to work is always very crazy and busy. I spend most of my day on the phone so by evening I don't have any words left and the few I have I usually share with my hubby.  So here is to a better word week!

Weekend Update

There was a lot of knitting to go along with the snow that we received this weekend.  Sunday morning we woke up to 6 inches on the ground and by this morning it was 14 inches. By this evening, half had melted but it still looks like a wonderland.

I was able to finish the dreaded 2nd sock for my dad's Christmas present. I know better now than to cast on anything while watching a Harry Potter movie. I finish the Christmas Hat for mr80grit and immediately cast on mine which I will finish this week!!! I have many evening of knitting planned as Christmas decoration was finished this weekend also, more on that in another post.

Moments from Monday

Well it definately was colder yesterday so I was able to wear more hand knit socks.

The mountains started to get some snow yesterday and they looked so beautiful!

I finished a pair of socks for Christmas giving on Saturday and then immediately cast on another pair also for christmas.  I made a little progress on a hat yesterday too!
Completed Xmas socks for MrHarleydude

Hat for Xmas wearing
Xmas Socks for Dad
They are forcasting more rain and snow today so I can't see what we actually get!  The clouds are rolling in as I write.  I am excited to wear hand knit socks again today. Can you tell I really love my socks? Yes I sense a theme of taking pictures of them each morning!

Clueless Today

Today was my last day of work until after the spring break and my brain was already for it to be break.  I haven't been knitting for the last few days because of a pulled muscle in my back and this morning I woke up feeling better but still not 100% so instead of knitting I read. The next thing I knew it was 11:21 am and I need to be at the studio by 11:45 am.  Wow! I raced getting ready and just as I was leaving the bedroom to go downstairs and out the door, Mr80grit called and said I was parked in his spot.  This really confused me as I have the covered parking stall plus he works during the day so I couldn't figure it out at all.  So now I am running late and totally confused.

I run downstairs and Mr80grit comes in the door, he has come home to get ready to go to the dentist.  (That makes sense). BTW it is snowing! Snowing? Really? Wow! I didn't even realize.  They have got our hopes up so many times, I guessed I didn't believe it.  But this time it was actually snowing. Of course, it was melting almost as quickly as it fell.  I quickly kissed Mr80grit and walked out the door and this is what greeted me.
Just a light dusting on the lawn.  I headed to work and made it on time and my meeting with my boss was about 25 minutes and when I came out of his studio, it looked like this.
Just sticking a little bit more.  It was pretty much like that all day.  Mr80grit had a perfect checkup at the dentist. (Mine are always expensive, so it is nice that his are routine).  I should have cleaned my car off when I left my office, but I let my wipers and driving take care of it as it wasn't that bad.  So March came in like a lamb and out like a lion.  I can handle that.

A lost week into a weekend

I am back after a long week fighting what I thought were allergies which was actually allergies with a underlying cold. After a crazy week ending on Friday...I crawled into my jammies and stayed there all weekend long. Mr80grit was wonderful, we had homemade meals, he rented a video that I wanted to see. No knitting has really been done in a week as I was totally drained by the time I got home each day. I spent a lot of time on Saturday and Sunday on the couch with 'nurse' Isabelle and 'nurse' Fergie. They kept me warm and all the TLC I wanted. Little China I think was not feeling well on Saturday and only came downstairs once but on Sunday was up and down the stairs all day. China's health always seem to parallel mine, it is wierd but I swear that little kitty china has the same allergies as I do.

But this morning I woke up feeling a ton better. The sun was shinning on the four inches of snow we got under the night..most of which has now melted. Maybe I will get some photos of the shawl in the beautiful sunlight this week. Depending on the storms.

Snow finally!

We have been dealing with fog/smog for the last week, which is very yucky. But it started to rain on Friday and Saturday, then yesterday Snow! I love it. I was the perfect gift for my last Sunday working! I have only three shifts left at the old job and then next monday, I go in to sign the papers! I am laughing that my last official day is 13 years from my first full day. I just can't get over how that all is working out!

Lobster and Raspberry Torte....

I have had one of the best meals of my life with my peers and managers from my soon to be over job. We were all taken out tonight for an appreciation dinner. The total works...appetizers, drinks, lobster tails(2), dessert of raspberry almond torte (no wheat flour only almond flour) and coffee. I am so full! I brought home one of the tails for Mr80grit and the dessert. We just shared the dessert....oh my goodness! Yummy! This totally makes up for all the times that they have had food at work and I couldn't eat it. Tonight was a very good night.

Mr80grit met up with me after at the local bookstore for a little more coffee and then shopping with a Christmas gift card. We totally used my part up with a knitting mag, knitting inspiration book by the yarn harlot and a book weight. So all in all I have been totally spoiled today.

I think my pillow is now calling me....goodnight. PS. it snowed again today and more is expected.

At the end of the day...

Nothing is better than a diet coke with lime at my favorite restaurant. It snowed again today and I didn't think to take pictures until we went out to our 'place' for dinner.

Overload

I am definately overloaded. Too much to do at work. Going in early and staying late. I am starting to really count down the days!!! I am hoping the overwhelming work at the orange office will die down for Christmas as I want to make it to Christmas eve services.

On the up side today, it has been snowing all day and Mr80grit came and got me from work as I am too tired to drive. The down side is that I didn't get to take any cool pictures of said snow.

I must hurry to my knitting only a few more sleeps til Chrismas!

It snowed...and snowed

Well it finally decided to snow yesterday and when it did ...WOW!

This was yesterday afternoon on my way home from work. Very pretty and with my new tires on the van, pretty easy to get around in. It snowed more this morning and more is expected the whole week.

On the knitting front, I have given up on trying to knit two socks on one needle. The pair of socks has been on the needles since October and it wasn't any fun for me to knit them so I put one of the socks on another 40" circular size 1 needle and have done quite a bit on both of the socks. I switched over at the heel flap start this morning and have done both heel flaps on both. The gusset is complete on one and the other is started. I am much happier! I do enjoy the longer circular needle to 4 dpns also.

Heads Up!

The day after

The snow stayed around today. I was able to get a few shots on my way to work this morning. I love when the trees are coated with snow. My mom lives on the benches of the valley, which means to say is closer to the mountains. The mountains in Salt Lake/Utah have a beach line or what looks like a bench seat at the foot of the mountains. To add to the confusion, she has a park bench in her backyard that we refer to as the weather bench. Yesterday her bench had about 12 inches and down here on the valley floor we had about 4 to 5 inches.

Mr80grit and I dream of living higher up on the benches as we love snow and we love to watch the weather come in . But we are happy where we are for now.

Snow in the morning

Well three days ago I took pictures of beautiful rain soaked landscape with brillant fall colors. This morning it was cover with a layer of white. It is always an adventure when we have our first storm in the valley. It makes the commute long and nerve racking sometimes. I had a pretty easy time into work as the light was better. But coming home it was dark and people drive even worse. Everything as a deeper cover of white and the sidewalks around my place are wet but not snow packed. So it looks like the perfect storm.

First Vally Snow Yesterday!

Well the first snow hit the valley yesterday. I was able to grab some shots before I went to work. The first one is snow on the back patio.

The next two are pictures from our bathroom window through the screen.

I wish it would have stayed longer. I love fall snowstorms.

I am working on some socks for myself out of the Opal yarn in the Harry Potter series. I am calling my pair Muggles but the yarn colorway is Dumbledore. I like this colorway a lot!

I finished the first sock last night and cast on the 2nd sock between putting away my summer clothes and bringing out my winter ones. My wardrobe is probably triple now. I love turtlenecks, sweaters, sweatshirt and fleece tops.

Getting Ready for Snow!

Last night Mr80grit when out after I got home from work and had two new front tires put on my car in preparation of the storm coming this weekend. All the weather outlets are saying that we might get snow in the valley tonight. I wanted it to snow but I would rather be on a day that I don't have to get up early the next morning as we go out for hot chocolate on the first major storm. But maybe it won't really hit hard until later. We have been known here in Salt Lake to trick or treat through the snow.

Just 20 mins from home.

This afternoon the rain stopped and the sun came out, so Mr80grit and I went for a drive, just 20 minutes from home up Big Cottonwood canyon we saw some beautiful sites. Colors of fall with winter. I love this time of year. I enjoy living in Utah for its seasons we have all four to enjoy!

By the way, I swear I can smell Christmas coming.....
